I am going to take advantage of my move to Somerville to symbolically purge myself of all of my old baggage. When I go home for Thanksgiving this week, I am going to throw out at least half of my stuff. I will go through my closet, throw out old notebooks, give the clothes I never wear and my old disgusting stuffed animals to the Salvation Army. I will chuck all of the old shoebox time capsules underneath my bed. Why the hell do I need old movie ticket stubs from when I was twelve? What am I going to do with the adult, child and baby versions of Simba?

Hopefully this will leave me feeling refreshed and relieved. I will only keep the stuff I actually USE and pictures which are dear to my heart. And all of my books, of course.

I’m gonna go all New Age Retarded when I move and try to make my bedroom feng shui and clutterless and pleasant and welcoming and shit. Then good shit is gonna be all up in my face like “Hey Rebecca, your room is really nice and you don’t have tons of crap, wanna hang out? Here, have some joy!” And then *poof* I’ll get some awesome job at Cymfony or Nuance and they’ll pay for my master’s degree in computational linguistics and then a non-gay Zachary Quinto look-alike who reads Dinosaur Comics and liked the Silmarillion and owns his own web-based zany successful Cambridge yuppie company is gonna propose to me.

And if my ancient bike in the basement isn’t rusted through, I’m gonna take it with me and probably sell my car and ride around Somerville and Cambridge and Boston feeling healthy and environmentally conscious. At less than a mile away from Harvard Square I’ll probably catch the hippie plague and get all pretentious and only buy local and organic and then go vegan and never eat an 88-cent Banquet frozen meal from Shaw’s ever again and the ZQ-doppelganger and I will attend pro-gay marriage demonstrations.
